The city of Krems on the Danube has a long tradition as a centre for education. A very broad spectrum of education is provided, from pre-school education, through the compulsory sections of education, vocational schooling and advanced academic schooling, to polytechnics and universities. Each year 5,700 pupils and 9,000 students complete their education in this Danube municipality.
For pre-school education and after-school care, Krems has 19 kindergardens and 3 after-school care centres. For the compulsory stages of schooling there is a range of primary and secondary schools, along with a number of elementary grammar schools. Outside the compulsory stages of schooling Krems offers a number of options as outlined on the following pages.
